DEKO Acquires Innovative Competitor: "We must utilise each other's strengths"

Two competitors in the construction industry, DEKO p|s and Wallmakers A/S have now united with the aim of utilising the potential that lies in their differences. The idea is that, by co-operating, they can create much more value for both the business and the customer.

Even at the very first meeting, the owners of the two companies agreed that it would be far more valuable for both parties to unite the business and utilise the potential of their joint expertise, instead of being competitors.

Accordingly, on 1 September 2020 DEKO p|s acquired Wallmakers A/S. The aim of the co-operation is to produce a wider range of products, optimised for sustainability and flexibility.

The co-operation will create business synergy

DEKO is owned and operated by Peter Krogh. Over the past 50 years the company has become known in the construction industry for its broad and well-proven partition systems and its execution of many major interior projects in Denmark. DEKO also exports to more than 50 different countries worldwide via local distributors.

Wallmakers is a small, but very agile and creative company that has provided solutions for several projects in Denmark. These include Nyholm Louisiana, Kalvebod Fælled Skole and GN Resound. The company excels in its innovative, often customised products, which have been successful both in Denmark for a number of years and in more recently in Norway too.

They have an interesting range of products which, according to Peter Krogh, “deserve much greater coverage.” This is what the co-operation will ensure – partly on the basis of DEKO’s capacity and huge network in the market. Anne Brems-Pedersen, co-owner of Wallmakers, confirms that “the collaboration will create business synergy”. She adds:

“From the very first meeting, it was quite obvious that both parties should enter into this agreement. Partly because our products and special solutions complement DEKO’s range so well; and partly because DEKO can provide the products with access to the market, which we could not have achieved alone.”

Expertise in the field of product development

Since 2012, Wallmakers has supplied partition systems, particularly wood-based glazed partitions. It consists of five employees, including the co-owners Anne Brems-Pedersen and Anders Hem-Jensen.

Both are well known in the industry for their expertise in the fields of sale and the development of innovative, lean-optimised, sustainable solutions. That expertise will of course be just as great an asset for, and complement to the business.

“We are very proud and happy that we are now co-operating with such experts, all of whom have such a reputation in the industry. We must utilise each other’s strengths, thereby making the very best of our joint business,” says Peter Krogh.

“By taking over all administrative tasks, DEKO can relieve the employees at Wallmakers of mundane tasks, thereby giving them space to devote themselves to what they care about and do best: developing and selling products.”

The companies differ from each other in several ways, and they must continue to do so, now simply in order to complement each other instead of competing. Although DEKO will take over the administration of all projects and the installation of the products in Denmark, for a period of time each company will maintain its own brand.
