UCC Campus Carlsberg

Northern Europe's largest educational and research environment for teachers and social educators opened at the beginning of September 2016 – UCC Campus Carlsberg. DEKO was responsible for all the framing and carpentry work for the Warehouse building and hanging gardens (Hængende Haver), which consisted of approximately 25 carpenters every day for almost a year and a half.

UCC Campus has moved to its new premises now, an impressive 57 000m2 building at Carlsberg Byen near downtown Copenhagen. The area will house more than 10 000 bachelor degree students, 5000 continuing education students and 800 employees.

The building mainly consists of two connected buildings; Karré and Warehouse. The Karré building was inspired by the old Copenhagen carré blocks that still line the cityscape in this part of town. The Warehouse building recalls the industrial heritage of the neighbourhood. DEKO was commissioned to set its mark on this side of the educational complex. DEKO won the carpentry contract for this building, which required 25 carpenters on the job every day since 1 January 2015. This is not the first major education and research facility for DEKO and its carpenters.

”DEKO has been installing its products in educational buildings for many years. We won this contract because our products live up to the strict requirements for acoustic insulation, fire safety and durability. DEKO did not only supply products for the UCC Campus. We were also asked to do the framing and carpentry contract that included the installation of walls, doors, ceilings, glass partitions and cladding for the Warehouse building. We also won the contract on glass partitions and doors in the Karréen building, and we supplied and hung the ceilings and steel doors for the parking garage,” said DEKO's sales manager Torben Rytter.

DEKO has been specialising in indoor carpentry for more than 45 years. We primarily focus on construction contracts for office buildings where our capacity and knowhow are much appreciated. Our experience was of great significance at the UCC Campus. The building site for this contract was rather challenging in terms of logistics, but the project went surprisingly well despite those challenges.

”All the parties involved in the project were able to cooperate quite well. We maintained excellent progress. That is part of the reason NCC managed to conclude the project on schedule. I am very satisfied with our work, not least in how we handled the logistical challenges on site,” Rytter said.

NCC was the turnkey contractor for the job, which involved cooperating with many engineering consultants from the main project including JJW Arkitekter and Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter, RUBOW Arkitekter and Mikkelsen Arkitekter. The architects managed to connect all the campus areas by sidewalks, gangways, stairs and elevators to ease pedestrian traffic on campus.
