Arne Jacobsen's original ideas developed with DEKO FG

Munkegård School, originally designed by the architect Arne Jacobsen in 1957, was the first single level school to be built in Denmark. The original school consisted of a number of single story blocks connected by a network of cross-crossing glazed corridors.

The Danish Architect firm Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter designed the restoration and extension of the school, which was recently completed.

The extension creates space for new practical rooms, and is on the lower ground floor below the playground. The natural light for the rooms comes from lightwells and glazed partitions separating the rooms.

The soundproof and transparent DEKO FG fully glazed partitions were an obvious choice, because of the character of the building and the high specifications for the glazed partitions.

The glazed sections are made of low-iron toughened glass, which does not have the greenish tint of standard glass. And for extra soundproofing to the gym, laminated sound-rated glass is used.

As well as DEKO FG partitions for the practical rooms, we supplied and installed glazed entrances. The doors for the entrance and the colourful toilets are DEKO FG pivoting glazed doors.

The Munkegård School project was an exciting job, and at DEKO we are pleased with the final result, which we think lives up to the original ideas and vision of Arne Jacobsen and Dorte Mandrup.
