The environmentally friendly Green Lighthouse

The new administration building for the Science Faculty of the University of Copenhagen is called the Green Lighthouse (or "det grønne fyrtårn" in Danish), and is Denmark's first public building to be carbon neutral.

In the context of the climate change conference in December 2009, the building is a good opportunity to demonstrate the considerable expertise of Danish companies in creating buildings that are both environmentally friendly and architecturally elegant.

The Green Lighthouse in Copenhagen is environmentally friendly from top to bottom. It is 3.5 storeys high and shaped liked a cylinder – this is an architectural feature but also helps reduce solar radiation and heat loss. The building has a sloping roof for the large number of skylights letting in the daylight, and solar collectors that supply the whole building with electricity.

DEKO GV glazed partitions were an obvious choice, precisely because of this aim to make daylight the main source of light. The dividers between meeting rooms are DEKO GV double glazed partitions. The glazed partitions allow the light in, while the two layers of glass reduce noise to an absolute minimum.

The elements of the DEKO GV partitions are individually adapted for the building and the slim profiles are white to match the interior design. Manual or motorised Faber blinds are installed between the two layers of glass, to provide shading from the sun, etc.

The DEKO GV partition also includes glazed modules integrated into gypsum and door modules, to create a coherent impression with elegant transitions between the various materials. The gypsum module above the glazed panels incorporates a ventilation grille for natural ventilation.

DEKO GV glazed partitions were the perfect choice for this project because they are easily reusable, they minimise noise transmission, they optimise natural light and, importantly, they have a minimalist look.
