BIG’s new headquarters in Nordhavn: Raw concrete and glass in architectural balance

Minimalist brutalism - also on the inside

BIG HQ is a seven-storey office building with staggered floor levels that create an open and visually connected working environment. Transparent glass partitions meet massive concrete beams in an expression that balances robustness and lightness, with daylight, views and spatial openness as recurring themes.

Externally, the building signals modern brutalism. Internally, the raw, stringent design language continues with untreated concrete walls and floors, as well as columns in marble and granite. These heavy materials interact with the large glass surfaces to bring both elegance and visual lightness to the spaces.

Glass partitions that extend the architecture of the space

DEKO’s glass partition solutions were developed specifically for the project and feature clean joints as well as specially developed full-glass doors in architecturally adapted heights. The solutions appear fully transparent and support the building’s open way of working, allowing the spaces to feel connected rather than divided.

The door handles were specially designed for the project and made from raw aluminium with a simple, precise form that makes them a natural extension of the door. Frames and profiles were also supplied in raw aluminium, creating a consistent material line in dialogue with concrete, glass and steel.

The large glass sections follow the building’s staggered geometry and function as architectural surfaces rather than traditional partition walls. In this way, the glass walls become an active part of the building’s spatial narrative.

Playful asymmetry demands attention to detail

One of the building’s most characteristic features is the staggered and “half” floors that run throughout the building. The playful yet complex geometry places high demands on the interior — including the technical solutions.

On the 6th floor, for example, the fire-rated glass solutions are installed offset from one another, creating a direct reference to the building’s architectural DNA.

At the same time, it was a key ambition that the glass partitions should ensure maximum visual contact with the surroundings — with views of the sky and sea and a sense of openness across floors and functions.

A signature building for the studio

BIG’s new headquarters is both a workplace and an architectural manifesto — a building where materials, proportions and details come together as a clear expression of the studio’s approach to architecture.

At DEKO, we are proud to have contributed customised glass partition solutions to a project where function, safety and aesthetics go hand in hand, supporting a headquarters that stands as a signature building for one of the world’s most influential architecture studios.
