From patent office to modern workplace: DEKO supplies Tré solutions for Akademikernes A-kasse

At Akademikernes A-kasse’s headquarters in Copenhagen, CCO Arkitekter has transformed a former patent office from the 1930s into a modern office environment. DEKO has supplied and installed Tré glass partitions, timber-framed glass doors, a custom sliding door and fire-rated sections, creating a cohesive architectural expression across different functions and technical requirements.

When an existing building is adapted for modern workplaces, light, openness and visual coherence must be balanced with the need for screening, sound insulation and fire protection. At Akademikernes A-kasse, Tré has been used as the consistent glass partition solution in matt lacquered pine.

A consistent materiality throughout the building

The same simple profiling and combination of pine and glass is repeated from the meeting rooms to the fire-rated sections. This means that solutions with different functions and technical properties appear as parts of the same architectural whole.

The warm expression of the pine adds materiality to the spaces, while the glass panels contribute to a bright and visually coherent office environment.

Transparent meeting rooms with acoustic partitions

Large glass panels separate the meeting rooms from the surrounding areas without breaking the visual connection with the rest of the office. The slim mullions of the glass partitions create a steady rhythm that continues in the timber-framed glass doors.

Both meeting rooms and smaller meeting booths have been adapted to the project’s acoustic requirements. The solutions are designed with sound insulation of up to Rw 39 dB.

Custom Tré sliding door at the entrance

Tré is also used in the building’s two entrance areas. In one of them, a custom Tré sliding door is integrated into a larger glass section together with a double timber-framed glass door. The sliding door was developed specifically for the project and follows the design line of the other Tré solutions.

The other entrance area functions as a windbreak and is designed with a double timber-framed glass door as well as overhead glass panels above both the door and walls. The tall glass panels preserve the view through the entrance areas, while the pine creates a visual connection to the meeting rooms further inside the building.

Consistent design across technical requirements

The Tré solutions have been project-adapted to the different requirements of the building. The glass partitions provide sound insulation of up to Rw 39 dB, and on the ground floor, fire-rated sections with parapets and EI60 fire classification have been established.

Although the solutions meet different technical requirements, the expression in pine and glass is repeated throughout. The sound-insulating meeting rooms, the fire-rated sections and the custom sliding door are therefore experienced as part of the same whole.

Strong project collaboration

CCO Arkitekter designed the transformation, while Tømrerfirmaet Sten Jensen A/S was responsible for the construction work. DEKO supplied and installed the Tré solutions in matt lacquered pine, including the custom sliding door.

The collaboration has contributed to an office environment with clear spatial divisions, generous daylight and a materiality that runs throughout the building.
