Glass partitions and doors with cobalt-blue profiles for historic Nordstens Hus

The old building Nordstens Hus at Slotsgade 13-15 in Hillerød, Denmark carries its own unique history as the former headquarters of one of Denmark’s largest agricultural machinery manufacturers. In the modernisation of the building, the ambition has been to restore as much of the original architecture as possible in order to honour and highlight its history. For this reason, the flooring, brickwork, columns and beams have been preserved and incorporated as part of the new interior.

Today, Nordstens Hus functions as office lease space, and DEKO has contributed functional, minimalist glass partitions that not only provide acoustic and fire-rated properties, but also distribute natural daylight, allowing warmth and light to flow into the older building. At the same time, the colour of the profiles and frames has been carefully selected as an important decorative element in the interior.

Glass partitions as a striking interior element

The future meets the past in Nordstens Hus, and this is particularly evident in the interior, where building elements more than 100 years old coexist with entirely new, modern interior solutions. Wooden floorboards, beams and columns, together with the red brickwork, bear witness to the building’s past and create an expression that is both raw and warm.

However, the historic elements truly come into their own in combination with the modern door and glass partition solutions. The clear glass set against the raw materials — and not least the dramatic cobalt-blue colour of the frames contrasted with the calm, warm tones of the wood and brick — creates a dynamic contrast in the interior that allows the building’s original architecture to stand out.

Acoustic and fire-rated: An old building with a functional interior

Beyond contributing to the decorative interplay of the interior, DEKO’s door and glass partition solutions also play an important functional role in the modernisation of Nordstens Hus. To bring the building fully up to date with modern fire-safety requirements, DEKO FG Fire Profile glass partition solutions have been supplied with a fire classification of up to EI60, together with fire-rated DEKO AG aluminium-framed glazed doors.

In addition, it is essential that the office environment provides the best possible conditions for concentration and focus. The offices are therefore fitted with DEKO FG Silent full-glass partitions with sound reduction of up to 50 dB. Combined with our sound-insulating DEKO DG glass doors, the building is equipped with strong acoustic properties. All solutions have been delivered in the same design, creating a consistent thread that ties the entire office interior together.

At DEKO, we are pleased to have contributed to the interior of this preservation-worthy building, which has been given new life and will hopefully add many more years to its long history.
